Everyone has ups and downs, but when the downs feel like they are more prevalent than the ups, it is time to seek help. Depression can take a toll on every aspect of your life – you feel lethargic, nothing brings you as much joy as it used to, you have no appetite or you have too much appetite, life feels dark.

At moments like this it is important to remember that nothing lasts forever; just as the good times come and go, so do the bad times. But it is often helpful to have someone who can give you perspective, and guide you through the depression so that you can get to the other side.

Depression results from several factors. It can occur when you repeatedly find yourself in situations which don’t meet your needs and your justifiable anger gets stored up and turned inward. The loss of a family member or romantic relationship as well as other traumatic events can also result in depression. It can also be triggered by stresses at work or home, relationship conflicts or simply old patterns of thinking and acting.

This is the time to seek help. We take a two-fold approach to combating depression. One piece is very practical – we work together to uncover the patterns in your current life that are causing unhappiness and we find practical solutions to shifting those patterns. Additionally, we explore things in your past that may be adversely affecting your attitudes or thought patterns in the present.

Depression may be coloring your thinking, but it is not a life sentence. The negativity will begin to lift when you explore your unconscious blocks to happiness. Additionally, by taking constructive, positive actions in the present, you will feel empowered to reach for the happier, healthier lifestyle you seek.
