About Me

Joanne Gerr, L.C.S.W., is a private practitioner with over 15 year experience helping clients in Manhattan and New Jersey. Her areas of expertise include eating and weight issues, addictions, anxiety/depression, and the psychology of women. She offers individual and group counseling to a broad spectrum of clients including men, women, children, and adolescents. Participants in her therapy groups and individual practice have credited Joanne with helping them find solutions to troubling issues and attain more meaningful and satisfying lives.

Joanne graduated from Simmons College with Honors, and received her graduate degree from the University of Michigan. Her post-graduate education includes intensive study in Eating Problems and The Psychology of Women at The Women's Therapy Center Institute as well as extensive training through Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry.

Joanne has taught at Harvard University, Harvard School of Public Health, and Harvard Medical School. She has also taught at the University of Michigan, Simmons College, Lesley College, and the Rutgers University School of Social Work.

In addition, Joanne has given public lectures at the 92nd St. Y, Border's Books, Blue Cross and Blue Shield public education series, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Manhattan, the Jewish Community Center of Boston, and many health clubs.

She has presented at several professional conferences including those of the American Psychological Association, National Association of Social Workers Addiction Conference, the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, the National Eating Disorder Association, and the Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders.
